1. University of Medical Sciences, Ondo
University of Medical Sciences, Ondo, popularly known as UNIMED. The university was established by the Ondo state government in 2015 under the administration of Ondo state governor Olusegun Mimiko in a bid to expand the state university in Ondo state and also expand the health sector in the state.
Currently under the administration of Vice Chancellor Professor Ebunoluwa Aderonke Adejuyibe.The university, established as a specialized medical university in Nigeria, is one of its kind, being the first specialized medical university and the third in Africa.
The university is one of its kind for mostly science students only, as it only offers medical and science courses. The university currently operates eight faculties and thirty-eight departments under this faculty.

2. Olusegun Agagu University of Science and Technology
Olusegun Agagu University of Science and Technology (OSUTECH) is a state university established in 2008 under the administration of Ondo state governor Dr Olusegun Agagu whom the university was named for its contribution towards the establishment of the university.
Currently under the administration of Professor Temi Emmanuel Ologunorisa, who has been the Vice Chancellor since 2021. The university currently runs four faculties and more than twenty departments under its faculties. The university, though being a technology-based department, currently offers management and social science courses like Economics, Accounting, and many more.
The admission process is not rigorous, but the university offers admission to students from Ondo state first, compared to other students from other states.
3. Adekunle Ajasin Akungba-Akoko,Ondo
Adekunle Ajasin University is a state-owned university by the Ondo state government. AAUA was established in 1999 by the Ondo state governor, Michael Adekunle Ajasin whom the university was named for its contribution towards the establishment of the university in Ondo state.
Under the leadership of Olugbenga Ige, the university has seen enormous growth since 2021, when he was appointed the vice chancellor of the university. Under the tenure of Olugbenga Ige, the university added to its faculties and was able to introduce new courses such as Public Health, Nursing, and other related science-based courses cybersecurity, to the university education system.
The university currently runs and operates seven faculties with departments like Public Health, Nursing, Economics, and others running under the department.

4. Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA)
Federal University of Technology, commonly known as FUTA, is a federal owned university in Ondo State. Established in 1981, it was the oldest university in Ondo state, established by the federal government in a bid to drive education to its highest rate in the south-western area.
Under the leadership of Vice Chancellor Adenike Temidayo Oladiji since 2022. FUTA is known for its strong focus on technology-driven courses and is one of the best universities in Nigeria as a whole. It was ranked the sixth-best university in Nigeria in 2022 and is currently ranked the 11th-best university in Nigeria.

5. Acheivers University, Owo
Achiever University is a private university located in Owo. Established in 2007 and fully accredited by NUC to commence operation as an educational institution.
Under the administration of Professor Omolola Orinoye, the vice Chancellor of the institution, the university currently runs seven colleges, including the College of Medicine, the College of Social and Management, the College of Law, and others.
